Here’s a secret: when I first started courting work in Petaluma, I would drive by the banners and posters for Cinnabar Theater on the north end of town and wonder to myself how I could get that gig. They were (and are) simple, clean advertising for theater, utilizing my two favorite things: strong images and expressive typography. It turns out that I can’t get that gig because Elly Lichenstein has it all under control as the artistic director for Cinnabar. But I have offered my skills in other capacities, and thanks to a creative combination of reduced hourly rates, tuition trades and basic volunteer sweat equity, I now count a number of tasks that I regularly contribute to this beloved local favorite: weekly e-blasts, sponsorship forms, web updates and troubleshooting, house managing shows, answering the phone and selling tickets… whatever they need. Working closely with executive director Diane Dragone, I redesigned the website for the Great Chili Cookoff and created the identity package for the new Young Rep Broadway Bash talent showcase and fundraiser.
